Spring Water Way ~ visit our Refill Stations

We have 11 Water Refill Stations in Eastbourne. Here, you can fill your refillable drinking water bottles with fresh water. We have traditional versions but also attractive “Dolphins”.

Also, here is a Google Map showing where they are to be found.

Refill Stations ~ Eastbourne – Google My Maps

If you use the Refill App ~ free to download, you will be able to locate the Refill Station nearest to where you are. There are also many other places where you can do the same, hosted by businesses, such as shops, restaurants and pubs. In Eastbourne, we have 1 refill station to 1,500 townspeople. This compares very favourably with 1 to every 15,000 Londoners.

Our “Spring Water Way” is a nickname for the string of water refill stations along our seafront. See if you can spot them all! Oh yes: and please use them as you walk along our stunning seafront.

Greenpeace presents… the Problem with Plastics
Who: Stuart Chadwick, Greenpeace Speaker
Format: Quiz and presentation

Did you know that every year the amount of plastics we produce is equivalent to the weight of the entire human population?

Plastic is everywhere from supermarkets, to the goods we use, to medical equipment and pretty much every part of our lives. What was once seen as a miracle material has become a global problem finding its way into fields, rivers, seas, beaches and even our food chain.

Take part in this quiz with Stuart and the Greenpeace Eastbourne team to learn about why plastic is a problem and what we can do about it.

Bourne into this
Saturday 10 May, 11am
A leisurely one hour walk from the Beacon to Motcombe Gardens, along part of the known course
of the Bourne River. This amble will be accompanied by the verbal ramblings of local lover of
history and archaeology, Jonathan Seaman. He will discuss the history of the people and places
that once stood along the stream and the now hidden power of nature that currently lies bound by
a creaking drainage system just below our feet. There will be a mix of stories from mills to
medieval loos to farms and fierce thunderstorms so if you have an interest in heritage this walk will
be perfect for you.

Museum of Water

The Museum of Water celebrates and highlights the water around us. So often taken for granted, yet essential for life.  What does water give us, and what should we be giving back?

Samples from across Eastbourne, Pevensey and Polegate will be beautifully displayed in glass flasks, allowing visitors to see their colour and sediment. The display will be in the View Hotel foyer until September. Captured and still, will the water samples change over that time?

The Museum will explore water quality too – come and see how alive your local waterway is, and compare it with others.

This is a partnership between Compass Arts and Strandliners supported by Blue Heart.

Strandliners

Strandliners is a community based not-for-profit company enabling a greater awareness of the environment around us through citizen science projects. We can all take part and record wildlife and pollution around us, and the data can be used to create change locally, or by larger organisations able to lobby on the national or international stage.

Currently the community river watch projects, in the eastern Rother, and in the Blue Heart area of Eastbourne, Pevensey Levels and Polegate, are investigating water quality.

#HealthyRivers,HealthyPeople

If anyone wishes to take part, please see us at the Eco-Fair or email info@strandliners.org.

The Museum of Water is the headline event in the Blue Heart area. Volunteer water guardians are needed to help collect water samples and bring them to The View Hotel on Thursday 15th May. Full support, instructions and equipment given, please see us at the Blue Heart stand at the Eco-Fair or email info@strandliners.org.

We also run events recording plastic pollution around our coastlines, ranging from microplastic surveys to adding value to beach cleans, creating a data-rich picture of plastic pollution since 2005”

We know the water industry is broken. Water companies continue to dump sewage in our much-loved waterways, people are getting sick, and the environment is suffering.

We have had enough of swimming in sh*t and risking getting sick every time we dip.

Following the introduction of the Water (Special Measures) Bill – which is now law – The Government also launched an independent commission to look at the water industry and its regulation.

This is HUGE!

Plastic Free Eastbourne, working with Surfers Against Sewage is running the

Big Turd Paddle Out

This is a fun activity for anyone who wants to join us with their water craft: Paddle Board, Kayak, Canoe or similar.

We are paddling out from the Wish Tower beach, just next to the Lifeguard Station on

Saturday 17th May. Our Mayor will start the launch off. Everyone should be wearing a wetsuit and beach footwear, since the water temperature is low and since we are at low tide, the seabed is stony and rocky. Everyone who takes part will do so at your own risk. We will have carried out a Risk Assessment and we will share a Safety briefing.

Timings: from 12 midday, you can come and create posters or banners to demonstrate the purpose of the paddle out:

A message To the commission: we are watching you and we will not stop until we see an end to sewage pollution.

And we need your recommendations to be bold and put people and the planet first.

This is a national day of action with many places carrying out similar events to this one. This event is also part of our Easbourne Spring Water Festival, which celebrates our precious water.

There will be a short speech from Surfers Against Sewage, who will lead some chanting ~ get your lungs working well! and from the Mayor, who will see the participants off. The route will go to the Pier and return. There will be an opportunity for a group photo. We will have Vision For Eastbourne filming and recording the whole event.

On your return, there will be a chance for you to comment about the whole event.

If you want to take part but don’t wish to go on the water, people can still make posters or banners and use them on shore to get involved in this event.

A note about safety: we will have a dynamic Risk Assessment and should the conditions be negative, the event will be cancelled. A safety brefing will be shared. There will be a First Aider present. The Coastguard has been alerted and the Lifguard Station team is at the ready. We have our SAS rep riding out with you and we have a lifeguard on the water.

Please email plascfreeeastbourne@gmail.com for further details or queries.

Please travel to and from this event in as eco-friendly a way as possible: walk, cycle or, if you have no alternatibe, car share. If you do bring your car r van, please drop off your gear and then park away from the Wishtower, since the car park will become congested.

Sewing with Recycling in Mind

Reusing, repurposing and recycling have been part of my
life ethos since I can remember. Sewing too has been part
of that whether it’s altering and mending garments or
making household products to help others make those
small step changes towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
I have decorated the tree with white pom-poms made from
bridal veil offcuts, reusable makeup remover pads both
crochet and fabric and small Christmas trees from recycled
snooker baize.
Find me on Instagram ‘Ruth Woodhams’ to see a selection
of my projects and do please take a card if you have a
garment that needs mending or altering either for now or in
the future.

XR Rebellion Block Printing Workshop

We run an XR block printing workshop where people can bring their old clothes for a new lease of life. Block printing will be suitable for older children and adults. There is no charge for this workshop but we will be asking people if they could make a donation to XR. We also have some pre-printed clothes (including some baby and children’s clothes) that people can also have in exchange for a donation to XR.

Somei Back

I am Eco Crafter and only work with material destined for the recycling bank eg: paper/magazines, bottles, plastic containers, tins, flowers, leftover threads and linen.

My original goal had been to make waste baskets from waste paper (which I completed) which led me creating more baskets, waterproof plant pot holders, lanterns, hardy rugs, place mats, linen baskets.

Tent Totes

Tent Totes are a family operation which is – locally – collecting and saving broken tent fabric from ending up in landfill. Sorting the materials and recycling what we can, we are hand sewing the usable fabrics into useful waterproof bags for everyday items. Perfect for swimmers, for everyday shopping or even to line cycle panniers or backpacks, these useful and affordable hand-made bags are also saving resources.

My mindspace’s fabrics are all reclaimed from sheds, drawers and fabric stashes or come from old shirts and dresses or from fabric sample books. Scraps of gorgeous cotton or linen fabrics are put to use on notebooks and sketchbooks. They will feel wonderful to use and still look great when full and can be kept on your shelf with your ideas or sketches kept safely knowing that these beautiful items are also reclaiming lost fabric.

Fox & Bee Clothing

Here at Fox & bee clothing all our clothes are handmade by me , we are based in Eastbourne and have a studio / shop in ESK Gardening centre ( near the cafe )

All our clothing is made from organic cotton, they are breathable and suitable for children’s delicate skin.

All my children suffer with eczema & I have 2 children who are on the spectrum , they have sensory issues with clothing ,

This is how I started making clothes .. I needed to make items that where suitable for there sensitive skin , but also made them feel comfortable when moving around.
They love wearing my clothes , we even offer to put the seams on the outside .. this is how my kids loved to wear my clothes at first .

The idea is we make this bespoke outfit to suit your needs, it could be adding slightly longer length or slightly bigger waist, anything to make the garment last longer .

Our fabrics do have stretch , as they are made with 95% cotton with 5% elastin .. so this makes them perfect for littles to move and explore as they grow .

Our clothes are made to have room to grow , and last longer than most store brought clothes ,

We do offer a service of turning longer rompers , and leggings in to shorter versions , so they last another season .

Our clothes are Made to order and are made to last, we are also offering alterations & repairs for all your clothing needs

We are currently expanding into adults clothing too , as why should children have all the fun & comfy clothing .

We do currently only offer a few ladies dresses , but we are working behind the scene into making different other garments too .

Please follow us on our socials to keep up with all our new designs .

Friends of the Earth

We will be promoting how to encourage biodiversity in nature and protect our environment. We will have some practical ideas such as how to sow wildflowers in gardens and planting seeds in pots. We will have colourful charts to demonstrate herbs and flowers that attract pollinators.
I will have sign up sheets for people who may want to join our local Friends of the Earth group and have information about our latest project – Wildflowers at 5 Acre Field in Eastbourne

Medi Tech Trust

We are a charity based in Hailsham and part of our remit is to recycle unused sealed medical consumables that have been prescribed to patients but not used.
When they are not used – due to recovery or end of life – they cannot be returned to the NHS and would end up in landfill. We recycle them to war zones, and low income countries, and in some instances where they can be re-used in the UK to food banks.
It is quite a shock to most people when they see so much waste.
We work with many GP practices in all of East Sussex, but would like to get our message across to the public wherever we can and thought that there might be an opportunity at your Eco Fair.
Please take a look at our website www.meditechtrust.org which has some information on what we do.

Greenpeace

In 2024, the world saw the hottest year ever recorded, and climate change is only getting worse. As extreme storms, floods, and typhoons become more frequent, the people who’ve done the least to cause this crisis are the ones paying the highest price.

We will be bringing an exhibition to the eco fair

https://www.facebook.com/share/14EF1SAR8bD/

which shares the powerful, personal stories of those on the frontlines of climate change. Through images of treasured belongings destroyed in typhoons, alongside audio recordings and video interviews with those who’ve suffered first-hand, we invite you to experience the stories of Filipino communities at breaking point and find out how you can help.

Each photograph and story represents not just a loss, but a call for change. It’s a reminder that the climate crisis is not distant—it’s happening now. We stand together in solidarity, demanding action from those most responsible.

Come, see the exhibition, hear their voices, and join our movement for climate justice. Together, we can fight for a better, more just future for everyone.

South East Water

From flushing the loo to making a brew and everything else we do each day, we’re constantly using water in our homes.
The south east of England is one of the most water-stressed areas in the UK. With a growing population, more homes, and climate change, we all need to save water. This makes sure there’s enough water for everyone, and for our plants and wildlife.
Over 70 per cent of Earth is water, but only 1 per cent can be safely used for drinking water.

When everyone turns on their taps, has a shower or uses the dishwasher at the same time, it can put pressure on our water supply network.

That’s why we’re asking you to make a few simple changes at home to save water. This means there’s more water for everyone, and more water stays in the environment.
On our stall at this years Spring Water Festival we’ll be giving away free water saving devices and offering advice and tips on being more water efficient in the home so come and have a chat!

Beachy Head Evening Walk

We will meet at Helen Gardens at 6pm and do a circular walk up to Beachy Head and back.
This walk is a chance for everyone to learn more about the flora and fauna around Beachy Head, get outdoors, exercise and hopefully discover a new route or new information about Beachy Head, as well as promoting responsible use of the area. It’s an opportunity to have fun and meet new people in Eastbourne too.
Please note that there are some steep inclines for this walk so a good level of fitness is needed. Bring some water and wear appropriate shoes/ walking boots. We will also stop outside the Beachy Head Pub at the Refill Station, to top up our water bottles halfway along the route.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, however, we ask that they are kept on leads for this walk so that they do not disturb the wildlife.
Length: Approximately 2.5 miles
Time: Around 2 hours
The Beachy Head Ambassadors are promoting all the wonderful things that Beachy Head has to offer and inform locals and visitors on the wildlife, history, and walking routes in the area as well as lead activities (walks, yoga, art sessions) over the spring and summaer. Find us on Instagram and Facebook to see what other activities we have coming up soon!
